I didn't BLAME him for it. I was criticizing their choice of another academic after the Tories successfully made hay of Dion being an academic just before him. The point is they never ****ing learn.

    • Asher, I don't understand. The guy has people touching his private parts all day long. How can you not, as a gay person, respect that?

Except that they didn't want them. Not from the West, nor from the Egyptians.

        • @Wezil: My main problem is people seem to think his experience in the US or UK teaching about bull**** topics in universities qualifies him to run the country. I don't hold it against him, but it's not a point in his favour either. He's a fiction writer and historian, that **** doesn't qualify you to run a country...so why do they think it does?

He's a self-proclaimed intellectual, and I've never met a self-proclaimed intellectual I've liked. They're mostly about smoke and mirrors and ego. They'll write eloquently about the most inane subjects then try to take the high-road in discussions by haughtily proclaiming "I AM AN INTELLECTUAL! You are not!"

          • "Blame" as in the reason people don't vote for him.

Albertan's are incapable of voting for anything but a Conservative and the Conservatives troll for the small minded elsewhere. It's a bare winner election wise and bad for the country over the long run.

            • See, that's the thing about anti-intellectualism. Drake once pointed out that he'd feel worse about anti-intellectualism if intellectuals weren't such awful people.

It's not that Albertans are incapable for voting anything but Conservative, it's that all of the other parties openly target Alberta as an opportunity of exploitation to garner votes elsewhere. It simply makes no sense to vote for parties whose platform involves policies that will potentially crater your economy and put you out of a job so the people in Ontario can feel better about being "greener".

What from Harper's past qualified him to run a country? What are the requirements?

I'm the first to say he's an awful politician. Harper connects with the Timmie's crowd, Iggy never will.

Graduate degree in economics certainly helps, especially given the current economic climate. He's also experienced with politics, Iggy is not.

Oh please. The same applies provincially. You've had single party rule longer than Mexico (iirc). When you do get wind of political change in Alberta it is to toss the Conservatives out for not being conservative enough.

Except he implements economic policies he railed against before becoming PM. Was he wrong then or is he wrong now?

Heh, Wezil. Have you seen who the Liberals elect as leaders and make candidates in Alberta?

Provincially, there's only one choice as well. The Alberta Liberal party is even more inept than the federal one. They run kids and wingnuts as their candidates.

There's a new party in the province that are giving the Tories a run for their money, now.

You are aware how politics works, right?

The opposition exists to say whatever the current government is doing is wrong, even if they'd do the same thing. One reason I can't stand it.

                            • So the degree in economics is moot as politics will dictate the policy anyway?

Politics dictate what the opposition says. You know very well Harper couldn't stand up as leader of the opposition and say "I think the prime minister is doing the right thing!"
